first day of school

Published by at 3:35 pm under Family

Today is the first day of our new school year for my boys. We are year-round over here, with I rather enjoy. We are particularly excited this year because we changed tracks and actually got s mock summer vacation by getting July off (on our old track, we would have started school after the 4th). So this morning was full of excitement to begin school, have new teachers and meet new friends.

Each year I like to take a picture of the boys in front of our front door. It serves as my way of measuring how they’ve grown since the year before. We don’t mark their height inside doors, something that I think is quite charming and secretly wish that we did, so taking a tradition front door picture serves as my “door marking”.

It also serves as a reminder for me to get those stupid curtains done! The lighting is awful and they are hard to see, but tradition doesn’t always make sense, right? 😆

Note their keychains. Keychains are quite a rage for backpacks with many of the kids these days. I took them on Saturday to pick out a cool keychain and left with a Pokemon and a Bakugaun. Dang it, Jenna, I can’t spell these words and Owen has been so excited about Back-you-gone since Cody’s baptism. So they’ll have more to talk about next time they hang out. Hehe!

Perrin is starting 4th grade this year! I can’t believe it! Time flies and yet I still feel like he’s still my little boy who used to dance to the Wiggles while Mommy napped on the couch when I was expecting Owen. I don’t think he’ll dance to the Wiggles anymore and it’s a good thing because I heard Greg got replaced (willingly) and I just don’t think the group looks right anymore. But I still like Captain Feathersword. He’s funny stuff.

I hope 4th grade doesn’t kill him, because I like that kid a lot. I am a little worried since he had a pile of books up to the top of his head on his desk. It’s true! But I got other kids in the picture so I’m not going to share it here. I’m hoping the shock of text books isn’t too bad. We are blessed to have his teacher this year. She was his Kindergarten teacher and switched tracks and grades. She’s just awesome, can’t say it enough!

Owen is starting 2nd grade this year! He was really excited to meet his new teacher and had fun exploring the classroom before school started. I’m also really excited about his teacher this year, I’ve only heard good things about him and the room is charmingly fun. Owen was excited to see the Jolly Roger flag over their names and there seems to be a bit of a pirate theme for the classroom responsibilities. Plus there is Mr. Banana. You’ll hear more about him as the year goes on. 😉

I had a friend ask me if I cry when they go back to school. My response, No – I pray that they are behaving themselves! LOL!

Then they come home and give me this:

Then I cry.

Thankfully I have a magic pen. It’s true! My brother made it for me so I know it’s magic!

I’m just hoping it is magic enough to keep me from getting a hand cramp.

I really feel badly for all of you with more than two kids this time of year!

It’s hot dogs for dinner tonight, kids! Mommy has homework.

Your boys are just so handsome. You’re raising some heartbreakers. :O)

Love this post. The boys are super handsome and still squeezable, if I can catch them. I cried a little bit when I read that P is in 4th grade. I know C is in 3rd, but 4th seems so much older. It was my last year of chasing boys on the playground. Sigh . . . how I miss running after sweet Jason Backer.

I love ‘first day of school’ photos. In the ones my parents took of me, I’m walking onto the bus, not looking at the camera. Luckily they stopped that tradition before I got too old to be embarrassed about it.

I’d like to think you watched the wiggles only because there was no Yo Gabba Gabba at the time. Because hey, any kids show with Biz Markie teaching our children how to beat box . . . is amazing!
