owen’s wild valentines

I love making goodies for my boys to pass out to their classmates. The first thing I do is figure out what they will be giving, then how will they give it? For Valentine’s Day I found some rubber super balls at Target then I picked up some Fun Dip to go with it.

I wanted to do a bag style gift, but didn’t want to use my white bags that I use for Genie Bags. I was walking around the gift giving section at Target and spied these darling little brown bags. They came in a pack of 16 and were the perfect size. I was also impressed with how sturdy they are, not flimsy at all! Once I had the bags and the goodies, I started getting ideas and came up with a basic layout in my head.

The biggest determining factor in the designs for the goodies I make for the boys are the stamps they pick. They really enjoy this part and change their minds about 100 times before they settle on what they want. It’s fun to watch their eyes get big as I bring out stamps for them to pick from. Then I sit and wait for the final decision. I was happy that they both settled on Wild About You since I’ve just been enjoying everything Valerie has done with this set lately. They pointed out to me which images they wanted and I set to work.

I started by folding down the top of the bag and taking the measurements. From there I figured out what the measurements for the layers needed to be and got to work. The Valentine base is Cool Caribbean. On WW I stamped the giraffe in Cool Caribbean, the bird in Green Galore and then I masked the giraffe and stamped the oval from A Muse in Pixie Pink. The sentiment was stamped in Palette Noir Black.

It’s always fun to find your name on a treat, so I used my new punch from Stampin’ Up!’s upcoming Spring Mini for the name tabs. I punched it, then cut each punch in half and wrote each child’s name one it before adhering it to the back of the Valentine. I needed a spot for Owen to sign his name, so I used the punch again, had Owen sign them then attached them to the bag. I did this by keeping the tab punch open, used my stapler, then folded the front (where Owen signed it) back over the bag and adhered it with some glue.

The final touch was adding a little epoxy heart sticker. I picked up two sheets of these from Michaels when they first came out and I just think they are darling! And, yes, I made one for Owen to give to himself! LOL! I’ve learned that sometimes it’s just too hard to pass out the goodies when you’re four. So having one to give to yourself helps you have a happy attitude about passing them out!

I completed Owen’s last night because his pre-school is only on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so their party is today. So tonight I will complete Perrin’s. He chose the lion and the bird for his. I’ll be sharing those later along with the teacher’s Valentine.

VERY cute! Can’t wait to see what you came up with for Owen’s class. Did you bake ALL those cakes? You rock! I am amazed. A baker AND a stamper… you’ve got a double whammy there!
