trimming the tree

I love these little tins! They are like a bonus when you buy an embellishment by Maya Road. At the local scrapbook stores you’ll see these housing some of the cutest enamel embellishments, such as flower ribbon slides. You can find just the empty tins when you search for online realitors, but I figure I might as well get the extra goodies that come with them when I can find them locally.

I was lucky enough to find one of these treasures tucked away with my DT goodies when I joined justjohanna. When I saw it, I knew that I wanted to use this one to make an ornamet this year! I have seen ornaments and darling magnets made with these tins at Splitcoaststampers, and I’ve been wanting to make one of my own! This went together very quickly, which makes it even better!

I cut a 1 3/4 x 1 3/4 piece of Shimmery White cardstock and rounded the edges for it to fit inside the tin. I then stamped my cute Le Bandit Left with Palette Noir Black ink. I used my Watercolor Wonder Crayons and an Aquapainter to color him in. I made sure to look for a picture to help me with the coloring which makes it easier for me! *wink*

When I searched for pictures I noticed that about 90% of the pictures for the chickadee had the bird perched on and evergreen tree or by a pine cone in winter settings! I thought this was perfect for a Christmas ornament, so I went with that in mind to create the perch for my little guy.

I simply watercolored freehand the background. When it dried, I went over it with my black marker to create the outlines. For some added touches I used my Sakura Stardust pen to outline Le Bandit, and then added some snow to the tree with Liquid Applique. I then adhered the image in with some sticky strip.

I used the Crop A Dile to punch a hole at the top to feed the ribbon thru. The ends of the ribbon are attached with more sticky strip to keep the loose ends out of the way. I wanted to add a bow to the front so I busted out my super cool Bow-Easy template to created this darling double loop bow! NO WAY could I have done that without this nifty tool! I’m a horrible bow tier, often using knots because my bows stink! Well, I think I found a solution to my lousy bows!! Yippee!

So there’s my justjohanna ornament! I love how it turned out and I think I’m going to have to fish thru my stash for the Maya Road tins I haven’t used!

Hi, I love your ornament. I’ve been struggling with the Bow-Easy, as it didn’t come with instructions. I’ve send an email to the company but haven’t heard back. Any idea where I could get the instructions? Thanks, Dawn
