Pixieday

Here is my second sample for my SURPRISE VSN Challenge to Make Your Own Holiday! Since all the Hostesses are being called “Pixies” this time, I thought it would be fun to have a Pixie Day! Again, the challenge has to be completed in 45 minutes and I’ll tell you about this card and how I was able to complete it in that time restriction.

The card base is Pixie Pink *wink* with Dots and Daisies background stamped in Pixie Pink for tone-on-tone. I then used my Signo White Gel Pen to color in the daisy petals, I love doing this with this set because it really makes the flowers pop! A tip for when you are layering is to only color the flowers that will show behind the mat! It saves you time and makes your card making process faster! Next I cut a mat from Cool Caribbean and then used my scalloped scissors around the edges. The mat is finished off by using the Signo White Gel Pen to add little dots at the base of each scallop.

The focal image is stamped on Shimmery White. First I stamped the little fairy from Paper Salon with my Palette Noir Black ink pad. I then made a mask for her and covered her up so I could stamp the letters. I used my Headline Alphabet and stamped it in Pixie Pink for the word “Pixie”. Then I used Whimsical Alphabet Lower in Palette Noir Black ink to stamp “day”. Now, the Whimsical Alphabet wasn’t as solid as I wanted it to be, so I used my black marker to color it in so that it matched the look of the card better.

I then removed the mask from the fairy (in this case: pixie) and colored her in with my Aquapainter and ink pads; finishing her off with glitter on her wings, wand, shoes, and the flowers of her dress. The final touch was to doodle around the letters and the edges of the focal image. I simply doodled lines, moving my hand freely and not worrying about them being straight. Then I doodled little flowers and colored them in with either Pixie Pink or Cool Caribbean, glitter finishes them off!

For this card I spent the most time on the pen detail to really make this card more whimsical. Pen detail, or doodling, is a great quick way to add to your cards! Don’t be afraid to test out your doodling ideas on scratch/computer paper first to make sure you are comfortable with doodling. It can be intimidating at first, but once you let youself relax and not worry about it being perfect, it can add a fun, whimsical touch to your cards with little time and effort!

Tomorrow is the last day to participate in my pre-VSN challenge! Be sure to stop by and give it a try!
