in my pretty garden . . .
. . . the flowers are nodding! I know some of you out there are singing with me!
Lisa posted a fun challenge earlier this week to create a doodle and use it in a card. I told her it was on my “to do list” for that day, then never got to it! Then she BUSTED me last night! (hahahaha!!) So I sat down this morning to create the doodle card I had in my head. I thought of the Primary song In the Leafy Treetops that I sang as a child at church. It was always such a whimsical song to me and one that I enjoyed singing. The verse : “in my pretty garden the flowers are nodding” came to my mind when thinking of this doodle card.
The card base is one of those delicious Fabriano Mediovalis cards that Julie has got us all hooked on! I was fortunate to get in on a group order for some square ones when Taylor found some! This is my first time using one of the square cards and it almost gave me a heartattack! hahaha! (and boy, do I look like quite the name dropper today)
I started by using my Aquapainter to apply the color for where the flowers would be. I wanted to watercolor first since I didn’t want my doodling to get blurred. I used YoYo Yellow for the flower centers, then Tempting Turquoise, Cameo Coral and Apricot Appeal for the flowers. I then added some Certainly Celery for the greenery, used my Color Spritzer with my Certainly Celery marker and it was time to doodle!
I used a 05 point Pigment Pro black pen from American Crafts. A local scrapbook store was closing their doors and I grabbed a bunch of these for my stash in all different point sizes! It’s nice to be able to pick how thick I want the lines to be by selecting from my stash! As you can see, the doodling is very simple consisting of quick swirly lines to resemble the flower centers and petals. I then went back and added dots for a fun touch. An additional flower was doodled at the same time on some scrap Fabriano Mediovalis from a project mess up, and adhered to the card with mini glue dots. I also doodled the border to ground the card since I was not using layers. The greeting is hand written with little dots at the beginning and end of each word.
The finishing touch is very hard to see. I used my Sakura Stardust Gelly Roll pen over the whole card! I simply traced over all the doodling and added a few dots to the background. It is a very pretty and subtle touch to the card, giving it a little more dimension and interest. I couldn’t leave the envelope naked, so I used the steps above to doodle a flower for the bottom left corner.
After it’s all said and done, I REALLY like how this turned out! It was super fun and not so stressful once I just told myself to DO IT! hehehehe!! Thanks for the fun challenge, Leese!!
