Trick or Treat, Smell my FEET!

We are having some pre-VSN fun for the Home with the Holidays Hostesses. That’s part of the fun with being a VSN Hostess, you get to know the girls who will also be hosting a challenge and you never know what other fun things the Coordinators have up thier sleeves!

They gave us a challenge this week to make a Trick or Treat Genie Bag. I’m a big Genie Bag fan, so I was excited about this challenge! I buy the little white bags to make these by the bulk at my local Smart and Final store. I can get 500 for about $10.00. Sounds like a good deal to me! *wink*

I usually cut the white bags down to size them so they can be made using the same cardstock size that you would use to make a card. However, this time I decided to keep the bag tall to go with the image of the witch shoes. The finished size is 8 1/2 x 4 1/4. I decorated the front of the bag before adhering it to the bag.

The base is Basic Black coevered with this FUN Karen Foster Design paper that I found at my Local Scrapbook Store. This pattern is called Ghoulish Green, I love that it is shades of green! I kept with the look of the paper when choosing the colors to use for the image. I stamped the Witch Shoes image by Stampendous with my Palette Noir Black ink pad on Whisper White cardstock. I used shades of green and black Prismacolors and blended those with Gamsol and a blending stump. I’m trying to get better at this technique, so I’ll be using it more. I then used my Casual Snap Stamps to spell out the words I wanted to use and stamped them with the same ink.

Since the paper has this nice distressed look to it, I wanted to “dirty up” the main image so it would match better. I sponged the edges with the ink and I also used my Color Spritzer from SU! with a black marker to get the spots over the image. I then distressed the edges of the focal image and the black mat with the distressing tool from the SU! Cutter Kit, and then lightly curled some of the corners over. The focal image is adhered to the front with dimensionals.

I used the corner rounder for the top of the bag, and then used the Word Window Punch to create the handle. At the bottom of the bag I added two black brads just to add to the look. I then tied this awesome felt ric rac that I got at Wal Mart this week. DUDE!! you have to run to Wal Mart and look for this stuff! It is their bobbin ribbon and only 88 cents!! It comes in several colors and worth stocking up on! I then finished the bag off with a small green safety pin. I used a jump ring to attach a black bell that I got from Michaels then tied a small piece of thin black and white stitch ribbon. The final step is to adhere the panels to the bag. I used Mono Multi glue which I am hooked on using!

I think I’ll have to give this to Don to fill up with Halloween treats. Or, I should just do it myself and tell ihm to give it to me for Halloween. Hahahahahahahaa!

I love this! I need to try to make some genie bags. I have the craft ones. These would be perfect for my youth group girls. I was trying to decide what to make for them & give them at youth group Wed nite.
    Thanks for the great idea!
