Spaceboy

Yesterday I went to one of my local scrapbook stores with the intention to look for a charm to embellish another card I am working on. This store is fun because they also carry a small selection of stamps. When you walk in, the stamp section is immediately to the left, so that is the direction I head first. On the wall were some clear stamps by Autumn Leaves. I’m not really a clear stamp person but when I saw this set I flipped out! The set is called astroboy by Tia Bennett. My Owen loves the planets and it’s so hard to find space themed stamps. Perrin was the only one with me since Owen was in preschool. He obviously felt my excitement and exclaimed to me : “Mommy! You should buy them all!” That made me giggle and I showed him that they were stamps and not stickers, so getting just one was okay. After we picked up Owen from preschool, I started on this card!

I love using Tempting Turquoise and Green Galore for space themed cards. I don’t know why exactly, but they are my first color choice. Since this is a new set, I went for my space comfort colors! Hahahaha! I stamped the planet and spaceship on to Stampin’ Up!’s Naturals White cardstock, and colored in with my Watercolor Wonder Crayons and Aquapainter (also SU!). I stamped the cute spaceboy on another piece of Naturals White, colored with WWC and cut him out.

I then added Dazzling Diamonds glitter to a few choice areas on the background scene and spaceboy. I matted the space scene on a layer of black and then added the spaceboy with Dimensionals and covered the spacesuit areas with Crystal Effects. While that was drying, I stamped the stars on the Tempting Turquiose and used the uni-ball Signo White Gel Pen for the star centers, just to make them pop a bit. I stamped my Linen Background on the Green Galore and then layered the phrase “explorer” over the shooting star. A few touches of faux stitching and I was done!

This set is so cute and whimsical! I just love it! And the images are big, which will be great for gift bags since we go to lots of little boy birthday parties! On a side note, the black ink I’ve been using is Palette Hybrid Inkpad in Noir Black. I like that it dries fast, is waterproof and doesn’t stain my stamps like some other waterproof inks do.
