happy halloween!

The boys were excited to wake up today and put on their costumes for the character parade at school. I finished both of their costumes up last night and I’m pretty happy with how they turned out.

Perrin’s was pretty simple, he wanted to be Duke from G.I. Joe. We’ve been on a G.I. Joe kick this year watching the cartoons in order on DVD. I found his pants at WalMart – and he can wear them after Halloween, too – and I picked up some tan Rit dye from Michaels for his shirt. I got the perfect shade of tan and it dyed very evenly! I picked up a USA flag patch and some gold stars for some added detail and found a cool Military “adventure play set.” (you know they can’t call it a dress up kit when it’s for boys! LOL) But his absolute favorite part of his costume is that awesome Operation Iraqi Freedom patch that was sent to us from one of my fabulous stamping friend’s husband! I was elated to receive them yesterday, just in time for Halloween!

Owen’s was a lot more work. I made his whole costume, and I learned A LOT! I’ve never made anything more complicated than a cloak – Hahaha! It was my first time putting a zipper in something – and it works! 😆 I’ve also never used bias tape. I love the way it finishes off the edges. I was supposed to line his hood but didn’t want to. So I used the leftover bias tape for the edges and like the way it looks! I still find it funny that he wanted to be a cat so badly. Tonight it will be fun to paint his face and take more pictures. He wanted me to sew his Operation Iraqi Freedom patch on his cat costume, but I think I might make him a “military” shirt, instead. hehe!

Hope you all have a fun and safe Halloween!!

Awesome costumes, and very glad they enjoyed the patches. I found them where I am stationed in Baghdad, and very happy to send them and very proud to see them wearing them! I thought it was a very cool design. Take care!
