halloween weekend

Published by at 10:34 am under cupcakes, paper crafting, stamping

Apparently I was in the Halloween spirit this weekend. It started with Saturday. I was able to spend some time with some of my stamping friends: Jami, Taylor, Joy, Daisy, LeAnn, Bunny (Debbie), and Sencie. It was nice to take a break after the Christmas card class (which I’ll start sharing tomorrow) 😉 I decided to take some of my justjohanna stamps with me and work on the Halloween treats for the boys to take to school. Below is what I came up with:

This is a Jenn Box. It’s a treat box made from one sheet of 8 1/2 x 11 cardstock. The first time I made one it was a disaster! I made one at one of Jami’s classes and it was SO bad that I had to show her how horrible it was. We had a good laugh out of it, and I’m happy to say that I made this one without problems.

For this one I used Pumpkin Pie since Perrin loves orange. Owen’s will be in a shade of purple, since he likes that color best and it’s good for Halloween, too. The justjohanna stamps I used are small bat, tiny bat, six headstones, single tombstone, RiP, and happy halloween.

I first scored and trimmed my cardstock per the directions on the tutorial, then I stamped the six headstones in Basic Black along the bottom for the wrap around border. I then stamped happy halloween on the top flap then assembled the box and inked the edges.

For the focal image I stamped the images then used my Coluzzle to cut the circle, taking care to not cut thru where the bats are. I then used my scissors to trim around the bats for the “out of the box” look. I colored the images in with Old Olive and Sahara Sand inks and my Aqua Painter. I used my Mega Marvy Scallop Circle punch on Basic Black cardstock then pierced around the edges before adhering the focal image to the mat. The focal image was then adhered to the box with foam tape and I used black grosgrain to tie it closed.

Inside each treat box the boys will give a container of Halloween Play-Dough, SpongeBob Halloween fruit snacks and vampire teeth. I love these boxes and now I’m hooked! I was lucky enough to get to use LeAnn’s Scor-Pal and zipped thru a whole package of Pumpkin Pie in no time! I’ve got to get my hands on one of these! It is an awesome tool.

Since I was in a Halloween mood, I made some buttermilk chocolate cupcakes with chocolate frosting as a reward for cleaning my oven out this weekend. We had fun last night delivering some cupcakes to family and friends. We later ate one in celebration of me getting my WoW character to level 30. Yes, I play that now. It’s fun! 😆 While I was taking pictures of the cupcakes, Perrin decided to pose with them and made a funny face. Owen then had to get in on the fun and then I took one of them together. What makes me laugh the most is their hair. They had been wrestling on the floor and ended up with some funny hairstyles. Enjoy the pictues!
