bock bock cluck cluck
Well, Don’s be “threatening” for a couple of years that he was going to buy some chickens and on Saturday he did it.
We went to a place the next city over and left with three chickens, feed, water container, food container, and a beautiful hutch for them to live in. Don wants to have two hens, so we got three to give us better odds. If any turn out to be a rooster we’ll be taking them to live with the chickens at my Sister-in-Law’s parents’ home.
We let each boy pick a chicken and then I picked the third. It was quite hilarious to watch the chicks run in a flock trying to avoid being caught. Thankfully the man helping us is a good sport and caught the ones that were specifically picked out.
Our boys have been asking for pets for quite some time, but our yard just isn’t ready for a dog and I tend to be allergic to most cats. So for the time being, they’ll learn to care and love their pet chickens. Perrin has been reading to his and Owen likes to sing his songs. They will take their little folding chairs and go sit by the hutch where they can see them and converse with them. Hehehe!
I have to admit, I’m quite taken with the little chicks. It will be fun to watch them grow and see how well the boys do in caring for them.
Without further ado, here are the new additions to our family:
MeMe is Owen’s. He picked the name because he told us that his chicken was telling him “Me! Me!” when he was picking it.
Clicky is Perrin’s. This one is the smallest and often huddles under one of the other two to hide or cuddle.
Betsy is the one I picked out. I just love the markings around her eyes and the spots on her head.
So there you have it. Fortunately we do live in an area where chickens are permitted. I’m also looking forward to practicing my photography skills on these little guys. Don recently got me a Digital Rebel XTi and I’m so excited to learn it! It’s so nice to not worry about film and to have a Digital SLR.
Hope you all have a great Monday!

Very cute Emily!
Very nice pictures!
it is so sad that #1 Grandma has to learn from this website that her Number One Grandsons sing and read to the chickens-to-be. Can’t wait until the boys can call Grandma—maybe I should get them their own cell phones!
Will be looking up some good chicken receipes. Let Don know that his Father in-law says that chickens eat lizards too! Yep, a few more weeks and those cute little chicks will be eating bugs and lizards in the backyard along with their organic pet food.
Wesley, (the cat you left behind) wants to come visit your chicks and I can use a new pillow.

(chicks are not pets, they are food)

These pics are fabulous just adorable!
How cool you have an Ameraucana chick, they are one of the types of chickens that lay blue eggs.
I wish we lived in an area where we could have some chickens, a lamb, goat, etc.
These little guys are just too cute.

Uh oh! Chickens? You’ll have to keep ’em locked up when we come to visit. You know me & birds don’t mix. 😉 But, I have to admit that they ARE quite cute.
