sweetest flower

When I saw this set it was love at first site! I love so many of the images in this set, so I ordered it right away! When I received it, I was immediately reminded of a sketch I had that was inspired by a beautiful painting called Gold Swirls by Lisa Kowalski. It’s one that I came across while thumbing thru the various home decor catalogs we get while looking for card inspiration. I thought it would make a beautiful floral card using the small flower from the Green Thumb stamp set by Papertrey Ink.

Card base is Kraft, cut at 4 1/4 then scored at 5 1/2 for this top folding card. I then cut what would be the focal image panel and adhered it to the card base with Dotto removeable adhesive. I knew I wanted the focal image matted and for it to appear as though it was spilling over from the card base. So I temporarily adhered the focal image to the base so I could stamp the images as though I was stamping on one solid panel.

I used my awesome VersaMagic inks that I picked up from eclectic Paperie. Dude!! I love these inks! I had a small handful of them already, and decided to order the rest of them when eP got them in. No regrets on this purchase! They ink up clear stamps beautifully and give that beautiful soft chalky look. For this card I used Pretty Petunia, Tea Leaves and Cloud White. PP is a really good match for Lovely Lilac, which I very rarely use. Purples seem to be my problem color, for some reason I have a hard time using them.

Anyway, first I stamped the flower stem in Tea Leaves, manipulating it so that I could get a curvy vine to follow. Then I stamped the small flower in Cloud White, taking care to overlap the images on the base and the focal panel. Then I stamped the same flower in Pretty Petunia to add color thru the cascading flowers. I also stamped several individual flowers on a scrap piece of Kraft to use as embellishment, then set aside. To finish the focal panel I stamped the sentiment by inking up “friendship” in PP and the rest in CW.

I then removed the focal panel and cut a mat for it from Lovely Lilac. All layers were then distressed around the edges with CW. The focal panel was then distressed with my bone folder and adhered to the mat. The mat was also distressed with my bone folder. At this point I felt like the focal panel needed some grounding, but to me, ribbon wouldn’t do it. So I busted out my paper piercer and piercing guide to pierce two rows along the bottom of the focal panel — it gave me just the look I wanted! The focal panel was then adhered to the card base and set aside.

The last step was to add the individual flowers for some dimension. So I trimmed out the flower I had stamped and began to curl them by putting them on the black piercing mat (you could use a mouse pad) and gently applying pressure to the center of the flower with a dry embossing stylus. The individual flowers were then adhered as desired with mini glue dots. The finishing touch was adding Stickles to the center of the flowers on the focal panel.
